How to compare masters fairly

  1. Use the same source file in each service. Keep the original export so you can start again without stacking processing.
  2. Bring previews to a similar listening volume. A louder version can seem more exciting even when it has lost punch or clarity.
  3. Compare a quiet verse, the busiest chorus and the ending. Listen for vocal intelligibility, cymbal harshness, bass definition and pumping.
  4. Check headphones, speakers and mono playback. Make sure the vocal and bass remain stable when the stereo image is collapsed.
  5. Check the full download cost, billing commitment and file format. Save notes on what you prefer; there is no universal winner for every mix.

Does your track need repair before mastering?

A buried vocal, audible clipping or a damaged AI export may need attention before final loudness processing. For Suno and Udio tracks, compare the untouched export first. Use the lightest treatment that helps, and return to the source if processing makes it dull or unstable.
