Why Suno ignores your structure tags — and what actually fixes it

The Problem

Tags are suggestions, not commands

Suno's model treats section tags like [Bridge] and [Guitar Solo] as soft hints, not hard instructions. A dense, poorly formatted lyrics block makes it easy for the model to skip or merge sections — especially bridges and solos.

The Trigger Word Effect

Lyrics that signal contrast

Suno's model learned song structure from millions of real songs. Bridges in real songs almost always start with a contrast or pivot: "But now...", "Yet somehow...", "Still I rise..." Starting your bridge lyrics with one of these words is the highest-reliability trick the community has found for getting Suno to actually generate a bridge.

The Compiler Fix

Proper format + trigger injection

The Lyrics Arranger compiles two fixes simultaneously: correct spacing (each section tag on its own line, blank lines between sections) and trigger-word injection for bridge sections. The compiled output gives Suno's model the clearest possible structural signal — the same format as the highest-quality Suno prompts in the community.

The annotation system — making Suno listen inside the brackets

Annotations are descriptors you add inside the section tag after a colon. Suno reads them as per-section style instructions — separate from the main style field.

[Chorus: with full choir, building]

Annotation describes the sonic quality — Suno reads this as a stylistic instruction for that section.

[Bridge: contrasting, emotional, sparse]

Sparse annotation helps signal reduced instrumentation during the bridge.

[Guitar Solo: 16 bars, distorted]

Duration and texture hints in annotations improve solo reliability.

[Outro: fade out, reverb trail]

'Fade out' is the single most effective outro annotation for a natural song ending.

[Chorus x2: triumphant]

Repeat count and annotation can be combined. Suno repeats the section twice with the described energy.

[Verse: whispered, intimate]

Vocal quality annotations are often honored — especially in V5.

Frequently asked questions

Why does Suno ignore my [Bridge] or [Guitar Solo] tags?

Suno's model treats section tags as suggestions, not hard commands. It ignores them most often when: the tag is buried in dense text without proper line breaks, the bridge lyrics don't signal a contrast, or the prompt is too crowded. The Lyrics Arranger fixes both — it enforces proper spacing and injects contrast trigger words for bridge sections.

What is the trigger word trick for Suno bridges?

Starting the first lyric line of a bridge with a contrast word — But, Yet, Still, Now, Oh, Wait, Even, Suddenly — dramatically improves bridge reliability. These words signal an emotional pivot, which matches how bridges function in the training data Suno learned from. The 'Trigger Inject' toggle in the Arranger prepends 'But' automatically if your bridge doesn't already start with one.

How do I format Suno Custom Mode lyrics correctly?

Correct format: section tag alone on its own line in brackets, lyrics on the following lines, then a blank line before the next section. Annotations inside the brackets: [Chorus: with choir]. Repeat count inside: [Chorus x2]. The Lyrics Arranger compiles exactly this format — copy the output and paste directly into Suno Custom Mode.

What section tags does Suno V5 support?

Suno V4/V5 recognizes: [Intro], [Verse], [Pre-Chorus], [Chorus], [Hook], [Bridge], [Breakdown], [Build], [Drop], [Interlude], [Guitar Solo], [Piano Solo], [Drum Break], [Instrumental], [Rap], [Spoken], [Ad-Lib], [Outro], [End]. All 19 types are available in the Lyrics Arranger with per-type guidance.

How do I get Suno to generate a guitar solo?

Add a [Guitar Solo] section and leave the lyrics empty. Any text in the lyrics field tends to override the solo. Add a duration annotation like '(16 bars)' to suggest length. For highest reliability, also add 'guitar solo' or 'instrumental' to the Suno Style field.

What is the Suno Custom Mode character limit?

Suno's Custom Mode lyrics field accepts approximately 3000 characters. The Lyrics Arranger tracks this in real-time with a colored counter and progress bar. It warns at 85% capacity so you can trim before hitting the limit.

How do I repeat a chorus without pasting it twice?

Use the repeat count selector (×1 to ×4) on the chorus section card. The Arranger compiles it as [Chorus x2] — Suno repeats the section the specified number of times without you having to duplicate the lyrics, which saves character budget.

Why does Suno loop the chorus endlessly?

Suno loops when the model has no structural reason to move forward. This usually means: too many choruses without a bridge, the bridge doesn't signal a contrast, or the outro isn't clearly marked. Add a [Bridge] with trigger-word lyrics, and an [Outro] with 'fade out' annotation. The Arranger's analysis panel warns you when loop risk is detected.

Does this work with Udio?

Yes. Udio uses a similar bracket-tag system for custom lyrics, so the compiled format works well there. The output is optimized for Suno but is compatible with any AI music generator that uses square-bracket section tags.

What song structure templates are available?

Four: Pop (Verse · Pre-Chorus · Chorus · Bridge · Chorus), Rock (Verse · Chorus · Bridge · Guitar Solo · Chorus), EDM (Intro · Build · Drop · Breakdown · Drop · Outro), and Hip-Hop (Verse · Hook × 3 · Bridge). Every section is editable after applying a template.
